Butternut Squash Soup – Sunday afternoon

Posted: February 10, 2013 in Food

Today, I made soup.  I was inspired by the soup sample I tasted at Atlanta Bread.  Often times, I am reluctant to try something new, because it just might tast horrible.  But, was I in a surprise the Atanta Bread Butternut Squash.  The soup I made was based on a Food Network recipe.  My soup was not as good as Atlanta’s soup, but it was good enough that I will make it again.  My presentation is a bit lacking, but that’s ok because the soup did not stay in the bowl for very long.  (I used 1 teaspoon of the nutmeg, salt, and pepper.)  I think next time I will try a slightly different recipe.

I learned to type on an IBM Correcting Selectric when I was in high school. It’s the best typewriter ever!!

It was given to me and all I had to do was have it cleaned and fixed. It works perfect.

There are no other keyboards that feel quite like the IBM.

Super Nanny – tv series

Posted: January 29, 2013 in Family

I have “Super Nanny” on in the background. I have seen many of the shows and they always make me wish for a family. Tonight it was great to see a father realize how his words effect his children and how the family reacted based on his leadership. When parents give their children the tools they need to cope in the world, we have a better world. The children learn respect and responsibility.

Words can tear us down or lift us up.

Sad News

January 23, 2012, I received a call from my friend and previous boss (L. Chwang). He gave me the sad news that his wife passed away before Christmas. He and his wife were very giving and always thinking about other people. I have worked with a lot of good people, but he was one of the best. He lives alone and does not have many relatives around him. His only son lives in another state. Now he goes home to an empty house and lots of time to remember the past. He sounded awfully sad, depressed, and lonely.

It has been about eight years since we worked together. He is the only “boss” that I have stayed in contact with after moving onto another job. He was always helping others. Even today, he was asking about my husband, who has chronic migraines. He offered to do some research and speak to a doctor on Steven’s behalf. I told him not worry, because I did not want to bother him. A few hours later, he sent me some information he found.

Awhile back my sister, Tracey,  pinned this recipe on Pinterest. It looked so good, I bought a cabbage a few days ago. Tonight I decided to make it. Instead of using caraway or fennel seeds I used garlic salt. I did not have the seeds suggested in the recipe.

I was very happy that the cabbage turned out so good. This is one recipe that I will be making again and again.

Yesterday, I posted a “Wanted” ad on our private work website. I specially asked for a typewriter that works and preferably free, but I would be willing to pay. Also, the ad mentioned I would be using it for scrapbooking. Within five minutes I received a phone call and Mr. J. Rice gave me a typewriter …that works and he did not charge me.

Today, everything worked out perfectly. He was in a training class at the same time I was in the same building taking photos of a conference room touch panel our team installed. I met with Mr. Rice, talked a little bit, and obtained my new typewriter. He collects them and said he needed to clean out his collection, so he would not charge me. He was glad to give it to someone that would use the typewriter. He’s also going to give me an IBM Selectric II, which is my absolute favorite typewriter.

I will be using the typewriter for Project Life. Sometimes, we just need to ask for what we need.

Snow Day – January 17, 2013

Posted: January 17, 2013 in Snow

Most of the time I love sunny days, but today (one of many) it was cloudy, gray, cold, and windy.  I have been hoping to see a little bit of snow this winter.  Well, today around noon it began raining, then sleeting, and then SNOW.

It was difficult driving home.  We had to u-turn because the vehicles in front of us could not get up the hill on Eastview.   We turned down a side road, spoke to an older man that needed advice on the road condition.  It wasn’t too bad from where came, but going forward it was getting worse.  I had to drive very slowly up our street.  I am glad I have a 4 wheel drive.  The Baja is a very good little truck.  It appeared that we were the first to drive up our street.  About 30 minutes later I could hear a van outside struggling to drive up.  His tires were smoking.

We = My husband and me.

I have so many pens and markers that I needed an easy way to store them. I used plastic bins and sorted the pens/markers by color. This has been an easy and efficient way to store my pens/markers.

I spent some time recently organizing my sewing area. I used strips of paper and letter stickers to categorize my supplies. Being organized makes me feel as though I can work on a project soon.
